WOOOBA games run on trust. There are no referees, no leagues, and no officials at a pickup game — just people who showed up to play, compete, and have a good time. This Code of Conduct (“Code”) sets the standards every participant agrees to uphold. It is a binding agreement between you (“Participant”) and any individual organizer, host, volunteer, owner or controller of the playing facility, and the mobile application, website, platform or service used to organize or facilitate the pickup game (collectively, “Organizers and Platform”), and it supplements — and does not replace — the WOOOBA Waiver for all Players and Organizers. By electing to join, registering, clicking “Join,” “I’m In,” or otherwise accepting or requesting an invitation to participate in a pickup game via the mobile application or website, you agree to abide by this Code. No physical signature is required for this Code to be valid and enforceable.
Spirit of the Game. Pickup sports exist so people can play. I agree to bring a positive attitude, compete hard but fairly, and remember that every player on the court or pitch is part of the same community. Winning matters less than everyone wanting to come back next week.
Respect for Every Participant. I will treat all players, organizers, spectators, and facility staff with respect. I will not engage in harassment, bullying, intimidation, threats, or abusive, insulting or degrading language or behavior of any kind — on the playing surface, on the sidelines, or in any chat, message, or comment connected to the game. Competitive banter is part of pickup sports; personal attacks are not.
Zero Tolerance for Discrimination. WOOOBA games are open to everyone. I will not discriminate against, exclude, or demean any person on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, body type, skill level, or any other characteristic. Discriminatory conduct of any kind is grounds for immediate removal and a permanent ban.
Safe and Fair Play. I will play under control and avoid reckless or dangerous conduct, including in basketball: flagrant fouls, undercutting airborne players, throwing elbows, and excessive physicality; and in soccer: slide tackles in casual games unless expressly agreed by all players, studs-up challenges, and dangerous aerial play. I will match my physical intensity to the level of the game and never use the game as an outlet for aggression toward another player.
Honest Self-Officiating. Pickup games are self-officiated. I will call my own fouls and violations honestly, respect calls made in good faith by others, and resolve disputed calls quickly and amicably (for example, by a re-do of the play). I will not let arguments over a call escalate or stall the game. Where a game has a designated organizer, their resolution of a dispute is final for that game.
No Violence. Fighting, striking, shoving, spitting at another person, throwing equipment at a person, threatening violence, or any other violent conduct has no place in a WOOOBA game — regardless of provocation. Any act or credible threat of violence results in immediate ejection and a permanent ban, and may be reported to law enforcement.
Inclusion and Skill Levels. Pickup games bring together players of different abilities. I will welcome newcomers, support balanced and fair team selection, give everyone reasonable playing time in casual formats, and never mock or freeze out a player for their skill level. If a game is listed at a specific competitive level, I will represent my own ability honestly when joining.
Reliability and Punctuality. Games depend on players showing up. I will RSVP honestly, arrive on time and ready to play, and promptly update or cancel my RSVP through the app or by notifying the organizer if my plans change. I understand that repeated no-shows or chronic late cancellations disrupt games for everyone and may result in suspension from joining future games.
Respect for Facilities and Equipment. I will follow all rules of the venue, treat courts, pitches, and equipment with care, share community equipment fairly, clean up after myself (including trash and personal belongings), and leave the facility in the condition I found it or better. I am responsible for any damage I cause through misuse.
Alcohol, Drugs, and Impairment. I will not participate while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance that compromises my ability to play safely, and I will not bring illegal substances to any game or facility. Organizers may refuse participation to anyone who appears impaired.
Health, Injury, and Emergencies. If a player appears injured, I will stop play immediately and not resume until the situation is addressed. I will not pressure an injured or unwell player to continue, and I will not play when I am injured, unwell, or contagious in a way that endangers myself or others. I will cooperate with organizers and facility staff in any emergency.
Minors and Guardians. Where minors participate, all adult participants share responsibility for maintaining an environment that is safe and appropriate for them. Any conduct that endangers, exploits, or is inappropriate toward a minor results in immediate removal, a permanent ban, and referral to the appropriate authorities. A parent or legal guardian accepting this Code on behalf of a minor is responsible for the minor’s compliance with it.
Digital Conduct. This Code applies to conduct on the platform as well as at the game. I will keep my profile information accurate, use game chats and messages respectfully, and refrain from spam, solicitation unrelated to the game, sharing another participant’s personal information without consent, or posting photos or video of participants in a manner they have objected to.
-
Enforcement. Organizers and the Platform may enforce this Code as follows, and may begin at any tier proportionate to the seriousness of the conduct:
- Tier 1 — Warning. A verbal or written warning from an organizer identifying the conduct and asking that it stop.
- Tier 2 — Ejection. Removal from the current game and, where applicable, the facility, without refund of any fee paid.
- Tier 3 — Suspension or Ban. Temporary suspension or permanent removal from future games and from the Platform.
Violence or credible threats of violence, discriminatory conduct, and conduct endangering a minor bypass the tiers entirely and result in immediate ejection and a permanent ban. Decisions of organizers and the Platform under this section are final.
Reporting Concerns. If I witness or experience conduct that violates this Code, I will report it to the game organizer or through the reporting tools in the mobile application or website. Reports are handled as confidentially as reasonably possible, and I will not retaliate — or tolerate retaliation — against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
Relationship to the Waiver; Acknowledgment. This Code operates alongside, and does not modify or limit, the WOOOBA Waiver for all Players and Organizers, including its release of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnification provisions. If any provision of this Code is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect. I have read this Code, understand it, and agree that by joining a pickup game I accept and will uphold these standards.
